Strikeforce planning an eight-man heavyweight grand prix tournament for 2011

California based MMA promotion, Strikeforce are reportedly planning an eight-man heavyweight grand prix tournament for 2011 featuring the top fighters on their roster including reigning champion, Alistair Overeem who recently won the K-1 World Grand Prix title.

Along with “The Demolition man” fighters such as Fedor Emelianenko, Fabrício Werdum, Josh Barnett, Antônio Silva, Brett Rogers, Andrei Arlovski and Sergei Kharitonov are also in talks over taking part. It is unclear whether the proposed fight between Fedor and Silva will be a part of the tournament brackets.

The tournament would take place over three events unlike some grand prix’s which happen on one night. This will of course make things easier with the commissions who are very cautious when it comes to one night tournaments. Stay tuned to MMABay for more on this and more as we get it.
